I'm Tom Fitzsimmons, a life long avid photographer living in the Chicago area. Mostly self-taught I have been intrigued with the camera as far back as the days when I bought my first camera. It was a battle scarred Pentax K-1000 film camera. I am happy to say I'm as passionate about photography today as I was back then. I have always had a special liking for the drama and mood black and white photography provides and continue to use it today when I feel the lighting and composition is a fit. My work captures the urban landscape, the active streets and still life subject matter. I include people in my work to add scale and human interest. When traveling I enjoy photographing the natural landscape.
The creative freedom I seek from photography is having the flexibility to capture a diverse portfolio of work as I walk, drive or sit patiently waiting for the right moment to press my shutter button. I strive to capture a moment in time but also convey a deeper meaning, emotion, or narrative with my composition and subject matter. Essentially "telling a story" without needing additional words. The presence of people adds human interest, scale and truthful emotions of joy and misfortune.
